For Immediate Release

Contact: Maiyoua Thao

Appleton- Maiyoua Thao announced she has been endorsed by the Appleton Firefighters Local 257.

Scott Pelkin, president of Local 257 stated they were endorsing Maiyoua Thao because, “she understands the needs of the city’s fire department and is committed to the steps necessary to accomplish them”. Thao stated, “I am honored to have the endorsement from Local 257. The Appleton Firefighters have endorsed me because they know I support them, and am committed to making sure they have the resources they need to meet response times and make sure our community is as safe as possible. They have already seen my commitment to public safety in meeting with the Fire Chief and other public safety officials, before I have even been elected, to understand the needs of our community and how the city council can help meet them.”

If elected Thao would be the first Hmong woman ever elected to the Appleton City Council. The historic nature of this campaign has prompted record fundraising. “Whether it is the local Firefighters, family members around the country, or local community leaders, I have been humbled and grateful for the outpouring of support for my campaign. With the support of so many people we have set records for local races. These people have reached out to support me because they know my record of success as a business owner, my commitment to this community as a mother, and my skills as a dedicated community volunteer. They know I will work hard to make sure Appleton is a place where business and families can thrive,” Thao said.

The general election is April 2nd, 2019
